Occupational medicine (also known as “occupational health”) is focused on the treatment of work-related injuries and illnesses. Physicians for occupational medicine diagnose and treat work-related injuries much more effectively than most primary care physicians. We do so by remaining up-to-date on federal and state regulations for workforce health and safety, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Department of Transportation (DOT), so we can make the best treatment plans and perform regulatory examinations.
When an employee suffers an injury at work, helping the employee recover promptly and safely with minimal workflow interruption should be the employer’s top priority. To do this, ATI injury care experts can advise and assist employers as they develop a workplace injury procedure (or plan) that:
ATI Medicine doesn’t treat injuries or conditions; we treat your employees as people. Our clinicians treat injured employees like people with problems, not just another number or incident. As part of our medical model, clinicians educate injured employees on the benefits of return to work and discuss the psychological challenges that could delay their recovery. And instead of allowing employees to remain out of work indefinitely and focus on their pain, our clinicians emphasize regaining normal function as soon as possible, yet at a safe pace. Doing so can achieve rapid and sustainable recovery. With our unique approach, injured employees are more likely to complete their treatment plans, reducing medically unnecessary disabilities and lost-duty days. We also provide specialist referrals, continuing education, and Return-to-work (RTW) clearance evaluations.
Finding the right medical review service can be overwhelming. ATI Medicine’s in-house medical expert review committee takes the complexity out of the search process, allowing us to review cases in a timely and cost-effective manner. Expert review help you resolve complex or contested workers' compensation claims using medical experts who are familiar with the conditions being evaluated. We provide pharmacy reviews, utilization reviews, complex chart reviews, Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) reviews, disability reviews, and claims adjudication services in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Whether it’s an annual flu shot or a other-required vaccine, ATI Medicine’s vaccination services can help keep your workforce safe and healthy with a wide range of vaccines available. Our services adhere to the best practices and guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other regulatory agencies.
Employees should stay up-to-date on vaccines. Whether they need a flu shot, school or job specific vaccination, travel shots like yellow fever, vaccinations required as part of the immigration exam process, or other immunizations, ATI has you covered.
Telehealth Injury Management System (T.I.M.S.)
ATI Medicine’s on-call TIMS response team is staffed with physicians and medical experts familiar with urgent medical scenarios including emergencies. Knowing the difference between Routine, Urgent, and Emergent is the difference between efficient treatment without delays and an unnecessary Emergency Department visit. By utilizing our TIMS on-call team, you can rest easy knowing your workers will not be sent to the hospital for non-emergencies and OSHA recordable events will not occur for a simple scrape or bump.
The frontline medical worker (RN) evaluates the injury and incident. They treat and assist the injured worker within their scope of practice and training. The worker returns to work. If there are concerns, the RN immediately calls the TIMS on-call physician for expert guidance. If the RN feels the worker needs to visit the Emergency Department, they must obtain approval from the on-call physician. There are life-threatening emergency exceptions to this rule, yet >90% of cases do not require a hospital visit.
Sample conditions for TIMS on-call:
Initial Injuries
Minor strains (i.e., pulled muscles)
Minor sprains
Bruises/contusions
Tendonitis/repetitive-use injuries
Minor burns
Contusions
Minor cuts and scrapes
Work-related rashes
Bloodborne pathogen (BBP) exposures
Injury Rechecks
Some wound and laceration checks
Second-degree burns
Moderate cervical and low back injuries
Significant sprains, strains, and contusions
Routine postoperative checks
ATI provides:
ATI can provide screening evaluations for employees with potential work-related exposure to COVID-19. Authorization to Treat is required.
Health tests and screenings help employers create a safer, more productive work environment. Various tests provide an employer with important information about their employees’ health. Most tests and screenings are fast, easy, and convenient to help streamline an employer’s pre-hire and post-hire processes. ATI performs a wide range of tests, including audiograms and pulmonary function testing, 350+ different labs, medical surveillance and evaluation services. Our tests and screenings cover: drug testing, and preventive screenings.
DRUG TESTING
ATI Medicine offers the standard-of-care 5-panel and 10-panel drug screens within the parameters of applicable state and federal laws for non-regulated employment drug testing to serve all your needs: pre-employment drug testing, random drug testing, post-accident drug testing, and reasonable suspicion drug testing.
PREVENTIVE HEALTH SCREENINGS
Separating work health from personal health can be a challenge. Regular health screenings (also known as preventive screenings) are important components of employee health and wellness. They help to determine the possible presence of a disease or other health problems. Health screenings can be conducted routinely as preventive measures, or they may be suggested when suspicion of a specific health issue arises.
Employee physicals, or physicals for work, are designed to keep employees safe and healthy on the job. Many jobs require employers to ensure their employees are compliant with exams to improve workforce safety. Some of these, like commercial truck driving, are regulated by government agencies to protect both the driver and the public. To provide employers with the most current exam standards, we work with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and National Institute for Occupational Safety (NIOSH).
Pre-placement, pre-employment, post-offer employment, second opinions, and return-to-work physical exams ensure the health and safety of your workforce. Employee physicals, or physicals for work, are designed to keep employees safe and healthy on the job. ATI offers general wellness exams and job safety physicals to keep your employees safer, healthier, and more productive at work and home. Additionally, regular physical exams make it clear which medical conditions are work-related and which medical conditions are personal (outside of work). ATI Medicine provides a wide variety of physicals, including:
Fit-for-duty exams
Respirator questionnaire
Respirator physicals
Respirator fit testing
Job-specific functional tests
Pre-employment physicals
Functional capacity exams
Hearing screenings
Our board-certified psychiatry team is standing by to provide urgent telehealth (video/audio) to injured workers, workers traumatized by witnessing incidents, and any staff members. Sometimes this requires a one-on-one meeting. For larger incidents, this may require a group session to anticipate and mitigate an emotional stress response that could harm your workers’ mental health. Whatever the incident may be, we’ve got you covered. No more searching for a specialist or paying ridiculous fees!
When your workers are sick, they may not be able to come to work. Many times, work is missed not due to the illness, but due to sitting in a doctor’s office for hours, using a sick-day and costing your team valuable resources and lost productivity. With our partner, Your Doc 24/7, missed days for doctor’s appointments, simple illness, or minor injury, will be a thing of the past. While employees may intend to take a half day for an appointment, often times this results in an entire shift missed, costing the employer thousands. With Your Doc 24/7, your employees can simply log into the portal, click the button to specify “Personal illness,” not work-related, and they can receive medical treatment instantly from the comfort of the staff break room or from the comfort of their own home so they can make it into work the next morning on time.
